Celebrate a World of Flavors!

It’s National Nutrition Month!

Celebrating flavors from cultures around the world is a tasty way to nourish ourselves and appreciate our diversity. We are all unique with different bodies, goals, backgrounds and tastes! A registered dietitian nutritionist can help you create healthy habits that celebrate your heritage and introduce you to new foods and flavor. Terry Passano, RDN is your on-campus resource!

  • Week One: Make an appointment to discuss nutrition at SU with our on-campus dietitian Terry.
  • Week Two: Explore probiotics on Wednesday, March 9, in the Commons.
  • Week Three: Sample foods from the world during our World of Flavors lunch.
  • Week Four: Enjoy spring break and make healthy choices.

See Bites from the Dietician below for more information.

What's New

  • Have you checked out the new addition to Plato’s: Simply Fine? It is designed to help those with allergies as well as people who are avoiding garlic and onions for GI health (FODMAPS diet). The veggies are steamed and undressed. The meats, poultry and fish are seasoned with just salt and pepper. There are no other sauces or ingredients. It’s just what you see with only salt and pepper.
  • Skip the wait and order ahead. Gluten-free pasta and pizza and vegan cheese pizza may be ordered in advance by calling 410-548-5598.

University Dietitian

March is National Nutrition Month. Our dietetic interns from University of Maryland Eastern Shore and I are excited to introduce you to “A World of Flavors.”

Join our interns on Wednesday, March 9, for a sampling of traditional probiotic foods and again on Tuesday, March 15, for our World of Flavors meal.

In this edition of The Zest, I discuss the uniqueness of herb and spice blends from around the world and the use of fermented foods.

Nutrition counseling services are a resource available at no cost to all SU students, staff and faculty. Call to arrange a private and confidential session.

We’d love to hear from our readers! Are there nutrition questions you have or subjects related to nutrition you would like to learn more about? Email your questions, suggestions and inquiries to Dining@salisbury.edu for publication in our next issue of The Zest.
