Mid-Semester Grading Due October 24

Why is it important to provide mid-semester grading? Grades are the number one feature that students use in MyClasses and serves as the primary feedback regarding their progression in a course. In addition, mid-semester grade reporting for all students, but especially those who are performing at a D level or below, directly affects:

  • Advisement during Program Planning
  • Outreach by the Academic Advising Center and Center for Student Achievement
  • Retention and degree completion.
  • Determination before last day for regular session withdrawals (November 5)

Gradebook Tips

Below are a few resources for features in the MyClasses Gradebook that may help you while preparing for your mid-semester grading:

Grade Posting Policy - You can hide grades for an assignment while you provide scores and feedback, then choose to manually post the grades for the assignment to all users at once.

Late and Missing Policies - You can apply late and missing policies to have specific points automatically deducted from a score (for late policies) or have a score automatically entered into the gradebook if an assignment is not submitted (missing). Beware that the default score for missing currently starts at 100%, so make sure you change the score if you select this option.

National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity (NCFDD) - 14-Day Writing Challenge - Oct. 13 Deadline

What's the challenge?

The challenge is simple: write for at least 30 minutes every day (Monday-Friday) for two weeks. At the end of that time, you can evaluate for yourself:

  • Did daily writing increase or decrease your productivity?
  • Did participation in a community increase/decrease your enjoyment of the writing process?

What's the outcome of this challenge? Explosive writing productivity and a daily writing habit to help you crush your writing goals! The 14-Day Writing Challenge is free to all members. Registration ends Wednesday, October 13, and the program runs October 18-31.

New Quizzes Replaces Classic Quizzes Summer 2022

New Quizzes "Build" options in MyClasses

Classic Quizzes is being replaced with the New Quizzes functionality beginning summer 2022. New Quizzes offers additional question types, additional assessment delivery options, the ability to share questions banks (now called item banks) and the ability to setup accommodations for students for all assessments in a course. A comparison of Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes features is available in the Canvas Community.

Between now and its full implementation, faculty can enable New Quizzes in their course and use both New and Classic Quizzes. Faculty are encouraged to begin moving their assessments from Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes. Watch ID&D's New Quizzes Information Webinar from May 24 for more information about New Quizzes.

Have questions? Want to know more about New Quizzes? Join ID&D for virtual drop in sessions every other Friday at 10 a.m. Eastern. Upcoming sessions are:

  • Friday, October 15
  • Friday, October 29
