Instructional Design & Delivery

News & Events

Meet Brianna Bowen

Hello Everyone! My name is Brianna Bowen, and I am the newly hired Administrative Assistant for Instructional Design & Delivery and Satellite Operations. I graduated from Salisbury University this past May with a BA in Communication Arts, thus making me no stranger to SU.
I am currently pursuing my MA in Strategic Communication at Liberty University and hope to obtain that degree by this time next year. Outside of pursuing my educational goals and working as an admin assistant, I enjoy singing, refereeing high school volleyball, and spending time with my husband and three children.

Tomorrow Is Faculty Development Day!

Faculty Development Day Is Wednesday, August 25

8:00 a.m.-Noon • Guerrieri Academic Commons Assembly Hall, 462

Light Breakfast & Check-In: 8:00 a.m.

This year’s event focuses on two topics:

  • Part 1: Launching a Center for Faculty Development and Excellence at Salisbury University
  • Part 2: General Education at SU: Student Learning Outcome (SLO) Alignment Workshop

Individuals have the option of attending this event in person or virtually via Zoom. Please select the appropriate "ticket" that aligns with your preferred method of attendance.

Registration is required for the 2021 Faculty Development Day and we look forward to seeing you there.

Extended Virtual Office Hours for Start of Semester

During the pandemic, ID&D moved to Virtual Office Hours to support and connect with faculty and staff across the campus. Even though we are back in the office, we are continuing to offer Virtual Office Hours during our hours of operation.

For the start of the semester, we have extended these hours. Have a question? Just drop in and let us know how we can help. Our schedule for August 23 through September 3 is as follows:

  • Monday - Thursday: 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Engaging Students

Instructor presence is essential for the teaching and learning process, regardless if it is taking place online or in the traditional classroom. Including an instructor self-introduction and sharing information such as what book you are reading, what your favorite sport is or current news of interest to you or the students creates a sense of connection and develops a professional relationship between the instructor and students.

Providing continual feedback and opportunities, such as a "Gull's Nest" general course online discussion board or start of class "In the News" discussion, helps create a sense of community and welcoming learning environment.

Read our Engaging Your Students from the Start article for more early in the semester tips to engage students. Have a strategy you would like to share? Email suidd@salisbury.edu.

Have You Sent Your Welcome Letter?

Courses in MyClasses opened to students on August 23 for Pre-Week, provided that the course has been published. Many Faculty use this week to allow students become familiar with the course, access the syllabus, and test out any technology that might be needed to complete instructional activities.

Faculty teaching online or hybrid courses should have sent a Welcome Letter to introduce the course to their students last week indicating the course would open on August 23. All faculty are encouraged to send a Welcome Letter using the Email Class Forums to welcome their students and to introduce their course modality (in person, hybrid, remote or online). If you have not done so yet, consider doing so today!

SU Course Related Policies

Need the most recent Turnitin Statement? Want to direct students to the Disability Resource Center or Center for Student Achievement with the most up to date information? Need the most recent SU COVID related policies for the fall semester?

We have you covered!

All courses in MyClasses have a link to the SU Course Related Polices and Resources
automatically added to their course menu. ID&D recommends removing any versions of
the previous Salisbury University Policies and Resources page in courses to avoid
conflicting information or confusion.

Suggested addition to your syllabus:

University Course-Related Policies: Salisbury University expects that all students
have read and understand all of the Course-Related University Policies and
Resources and thereby agree to honor these standards. Important course-related
policies and resources includes, but are not limited to:

  • COVID related return to campus information
  • Course registration add/drop/withdraw period
  • Academic misconduct policy
  • University resources such as the SU Libraries, Disability Resource Center,
Center for Student Achievement and University Writing Center.

The [INSERT ACADEMIC DEPARTMENT/UNIT] considers academic misconduct as a
serious offense and ALL incidences are subject to disciplinary action including, but
not limited to, separation from the University.
