Spring Start of Semester Newsletter

Check out ID&D’s Spring 2021 Start of the Semester Newsletter that is full of important spring semester information.

  •  Syllabus: SU Course Related Policies and Resources on Academic Affairs website
  •  Inclusive Access: What you need to include in your MyClasses course
  • Welcome Letter to Students: Strategy for communicating to students prior to the Start of the Semester
  • O.S.T 2021 OER Grant Program Request for Proposals
  • Instructional Software updates for MyClasses, Panopto, Zoom, and more

Pronouns In MyClasses

You can now add she/herhe/him, or they/them personal pronouns to your account settings in MyClasses. To select your pronouns, click Account in the Global Navigation, then click the Settings link. Go to the Pronouns dropdown menu and select your personal pronouns.

Note: You can also set your preferred Display Name from this menu.

New Rich Content Editor

When working in Announcements, Assignments, Discussions, Pages and other areas, you will notice that the Rich Content Editor (RCE) has a new look, but much of the functionality remains the same. You can add and modify content through either the tool bar or menu bar.  The biggest change is that adding course links and files will no longer be found to the right of the editor. Instead, a sidebar tray opens with additional options to select files and course content when the corresponding item is selected, such as adding course documents or course links. Please take the time to watch RCE video tip for more information. Please note that the options in the RCE will be different based on your role in the course and what content you have access to in that role (such as Teacher versus Student).

RCE Media Recordings Now Found in Files

Media Recordings in the updated Rich Content Editor can be recorded or uploaded as before, but with one significant change: they will now be available in your Course Files to reuse in the future, as needed. However, these recordings will default to Unpublished. You will need to publish them to make them available to students.

These recordings will appear in an Uploaded Media folder that you will want to publish:

Then click on the folder and make sure to publish the recording itself:

Note: Documents uploaded from the Rich Content Editor file upload option will also appear as Unpublished in this folder.

Lockdown Browser with Chromebooks

LockDown Browser is now available for Chromebooks. ID&D has added pages in the Canvas Commons for student instructions on using LockDown Browser and/or Monitor that you can import into your course. Search for LockDown and choose which page is appropriate for your course. Please see our instructions for faculty on how to enable LockDown Browser for Chromebooks feature.

Save-the-Dates

  • 2/5 -SU Anti-Racism Summit – The Summit is part of a broader institutional effort to be intentional about “talking” about racism and its effects on SU and organizational systems in general; “teaching” concepts and solutions for positive social change that addresses institutional, structural, and interpersonal racism; and “doing” the necessary and difficult work personally and collectively to improve race relations at SU and in our various communities.
  • 2/19 - Faculty Teaching & Learning Conference – Mark your calendars for Friday, February 19, 2021, as SU hosts its annual Teaching and Learning Conference. Due to COVID restrictions, this year's Teaching and Learning Conference will be held virtually from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The annual TLC conference brings together teacher-scholars from across campus to share and discuss teaching innovations and best practices.
