Congratulations to Sam and Linda on Their Graduation!

On May 5, ID&D celebrated the graduation of two of our learning assistants, Sam Gordy and Linda Zelaya. While we are proud to see them graduate, we are also sad that we will lose them as learning assistants. We are excited for their next chapter and know that their futures will be bright.

Zachary Townsend's Presentation at the 2021 M.O.S.T. State Summit: H5P to Build Interactive Content

On Thursday, April 8, SU's own Zachary Townsend, Fitness and Wellness Coordinator School of Health Sciences, presented at the 2021 Maryland Open Source Textbook (M.O.S.T.) Summit.

In his lighting-round-style presentation, Zac provided a brief overview of different strategies that may be used to stimulate student interaction in OER through the use of H5P, a free tool that allows users to create rich interactive content. The Writing FLC Writing Retreat - Wednesday, May 19th

The Writing FLC is holding a writing retreat on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 9 - 5 p.m. and inviting faculty to join to hep kick-off the summer where you accomplish a scholarly goal you set for yourself. The retreat is for you to immerse yourself in a day of scholarly writing and any related activities.

 

Schedule for May 19th:

  • 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.: Check in via Zoom: Breakout rooms to discuss goals and to support each other.
  • 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.: Morning Writing (with breaks)
  • 12 p.m. - 1 p.m.: Lunch (Food orders from Chuar, Chinese restaurant near campus for people to pick up or eat outside)
  • 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.: Afternoon writing (with breaks)
  • 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.: Check out via Zoom: Reflect on how your day or writing and review your goals for the day.
 

How to participate: First come, first serve, with priority given to individuals who can commit to at least 5 hours of scholarly activity on May 19. If interested, please complete this Qualtrics survey.

Reflecting on Student Course Evaluations

Reflecting on your courses for continuous improvement is an established best practice in academia. Our past year of COVID provided us with challenges but also successes, and now is a great time to use the feedback from students as an important tool to reflect and assist with planning for future courses.

 

Course evaluations are available 7 days after the semester ends. Instructions are available in the Technology Support Center Knowledgebase on how faculty can access course evaluations delivered via GullNet:

Faculty Development Day is scheduled for Wednesday, August 25 from 8:30 a.m. - Noon. The focus for this year's event are:

  • Supporting Student Learning Outcomes
  • Needs Assessment for a Faculty Development Center

New Quizzes to Replace Quizzes Tool in MyClasses

In a year, starting with the summer 2022 session, the Quizzes feature in MyClasses will change!

 

Quizzes will be replaced with the New Quizzes functionality, and a few faculty have piloted

New Quizzes during spring 2021. New Quizzes offers additional question types, additional assessment delivery options, the ability to share questions banks (now called item banks)

and the ability to setup accommodations for students for all assessments in a course.

ID&D will be holding four informative and interactive sessions on New Quizzes during the following days/times:

  • Monday, May 24 • 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Monday, May 24 • 1-2:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 25 • 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Tuesday, May 25 • 1-2:30 p.m.
 

Please register for a session through the Faculty Development Calendar and we hope to have additional faculty use New Quizzes in summer 2021 and fall 2021.

ID&D Summer Office Hours

Our doors will be open for summer! As part of our return to campus, ID&D will be available in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We will open at 9 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. Our team will continue to work remotely on Monday and Friday.

 

Virtual Office Hours will continue Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at  https://salisbury.zoom.us/s/91353026968.
