Soaring with Online Learning

Instructional Design and Delivery is currently accepting applications for the next cohort of the Soaring with Online Learning (Soaring) to be held from December 28, 2020 - February 8, 2021. Soaring is a faculty development program to prepare Salisbury University faculty to design, develop and deliver courses in aonline (online and no scheduled meetings), remote (online and synchronous meetings) or hybrid  (combination of in-person and online/remote meetings) environment through the learning management system MyClasses @ SU.  The winter 2021 cohort focuses on faculty designing online, remote or hybrid courses for Summer and Fall 2021 sessions. 

 

Program details and application can be accessed from the Soaring with Online Learning webpage. The application deadline is Monday, November 30.

Call for Proposals: SU Teaching and Learning Conference

Mark your calendars for Friday, February 19, 2021, as SU hosts our annual Teaching and Learning Conference. Due to COVID restrictions, this year's Teaching and Learning Conference will be held virtually from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
 
The annual TLC conference brings together teacher-scholars across campus to share and discuss teaching innovations and best practices. A call for proposals is currently open for 15-minute virtual sessions, 15-minute pre-recorded presentations or poster presentations on a variety of themes related to the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Lessons learned from COVID-19 
  • Innovative teaching strategies 
  • Implementation of High Impact Practices 
  • Assessment of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) 
  • Best-practices for online and hybrid learning 
  • Student motivation and engagement 
  • Teaching practices that encourage critical thinking 
  • Integrating technology 
 

Deadline to submit your session proposals is Monday, November 30. 

Faculty Playbook for High Quality Online Instruction

Through SU's subscription with the Online Learning Consortium, faculty and staff are invited to download and read the Delivering High-Quality Instruction Online in Response to COVID-19 Faculty Playbookwhich provides a path for continuous improvement of instruction along a quality-oriented continuum.

  • Design guides immediate and basic needs for moving course elements online 
  • Enhance provides options useful for improving face-to-face course elements that do not translate easily to online modalities. 
  • Optimize continuous improvement with ideas and resources for online teaching that aligns with high-quality, evidence-based instructional practices.
 

National Distance Learning Week - November 9-13

The coronavirus pandemic has thrust many educational organizations into various levels of distance learning. Each year in November, we celebrate National Distance Learning Week. We invite you to explore the FREE NDLW virtual event, From Surviving to Thriving: Rocking the New Normal, hosted by the U.S. Distance Learning Association. Register for free webinars throughout November 9-13. Interesting sessions include:

  • Focus on Online Collaboratories: Approaches to Building Community Remotely
  • Focus on Open Education Resources and Digital Textbooks
  • Focus on Virtual Labs
  • Focus on Proctoring (Panel Session)

January QM Workshops

Registration is now open for the January Quality Matters workshop series. These dedicated workshops are being offered at no cost to all SU faculty and staff through USM OnTrack. Please note workshops have a maximum registration of 30 people across the USM. Topics include: 

  • Introductions and Overviews: Helping Learners Get Started  
  • Active Learning Strategies 
  • Developing Activities to Engage Your Learners  
  • Setting Expectations and Learner Support: Helping Learners Be Successful  
  • Rethinking Content for Online Classroom

ID&D Workshops Offerings

ID&D is offering workshops in November that focus on CidiLabs Design Tools, MyClasses Gradebook, Panopto, Respondus and Office 365 and also is hosting a focused Q&A session with MyClasses Tips and Tricks. The CidiLabs Design Tools, MyClasses Gradebook, Panopto, Respondus and Office 365 workshops require registration, while the Q&A session is more informal and therefore doesn't require registration.
