TurningPoint Workshop 

Salisbury University utilizes TurningPoint applications for active learning and student response, which can be used both in face-to-face and virtual teaching environments to engage students with classroom activities such as quizzes, surveys and polls. Turning’s products can be used with response clickers, a smart devices app and/or a web browser! 

Join Instructional Design and Delivery's Safaa Said and guests from Turning, Inc. to find out about all the new changes and features for TurningPoint classroom response system (formerly known as Clickers). The Turning representatives discuss Turning's new branding and how you can use TurningPoint Solutions products to enhance classroom interaction.

Fear Not – We Recorded Them!

On March 5, Drs. Yujia Song, Joerg Tuske and Sarah Winger shared pedagogical best practices and examples of strategies to introduce students to and support the development of students’ critical thinking skills.  

On April 2, Drs. Carolyne King, Melissa Bugdal and Beth Towle described why they use peer review and how they carefully scaffold this activity; Dr. Sarah Winger discussed findings related to Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for reading and writing from GULL Week.

Call for Videos: Canvas MAGIC 2021 Virtual Conference

This year, the Mid-Atlantic Group Instructing with Canvas 2021 Conference (MAGIC) is streaming virtually as a playlist on YouTube beginning Friday, April 23.  

You are invited to submit a video recording of a presentation related to your or your institution's use of Canvas: success stories, overcoming problems that Canvas helped to solve, and other topics related to teaching/learning, instructional design and/or training. 

These videos will be included on the MAGIC YouTube channel as part of the virtual conference and should be 45-minutes or less.  

The deadline to submit a video recording is Friday, April 16, at 5 p.m. EST. Instructions on how to submit your video file are available.  

FLC Event - Becoming Human: Matter and Meaning in an Antiblack World

The Technologies of Identity Faculty Learning Community (FLC) along with the Fulton Public Humanities Program sponsors Author Zakiyyah Iman Jackson's talk on her book Becoming Human: Matter and Meaning in an Antiblack World 2 p.m. (EST) Friday, April 9. The free Zoom event is open to the public.

Soaring with Online Learning – Summer 2021 Cohort

Instructional Design and Delivery is currently accepting applications for the next cohort of the Soaring with Online Learning program to be held from May 17-June 21, 2021. Soaring with Online Learning (Soaring) is a multi-week faculty development program to prepare faculty to develop and deliver courses in a fully online or hybrid environment through the campus learning management system, MyClasses. The summer 2021 cohort focuses on faculty designing online or hybrid courses for winter and spring 2022 sessions. 

Program details and application can be accessed from the Soaring with Online Learning webpage. The application deadline is Friday, April 16.

Faculty Learning Community - Call for Proposals

Faculty Learning Community (FLC) proposals are now being accepted for the upcoming 2021-2022 academic year. Your proposal can be for a cohort-based or topic-basic FLC. The proposal should be developed by the prospective FLC facilitator(s) with a budget not to exceed $2,500 (final awards may be modified in light of prevailing budgetary considerations). A newly designed online FLC proposal form and an FLC scoring rubric are both available at the Faculty Learning Communities website.  

The due date for proposals is Friday, April 30. For more information on FLCs and the application process, please visit the Faculty Learning Communities website.

April Workshops

ID&D April workshops cover pedagogical topics and look ahead for summer and fall course planning and design. Offerings include exploring the New Analytics feature to learn more about how students are engaging in your course, planning for interactions using Turning technology sessions and learning the basics of MyClasses if the platform is new or intimidating for you. These sessions are meant to help you plan and implement effective online content, whether you are fully online, hybrid, remote or supplementing a face-to-face class with online submissions and resource sharing.

ID&D will not be holding a workshop on Friday, April 23; instead, we will be supporting the Annual SU Student Research Conference (SUSRC).
