Wanted: Your Thoughts on AI

The Faculty Learning Community (FLC) on Exploring Generative AI (Gen AI) in the Classroom is launching a university-wide survey to gather insights into attitudes, current usage, and future intentions regarding the integration of Gen AI)tools in the classroom. The survey will collect data from faculty, students and staff across the campus. Your input will help shape future strategies and support resources aimed at enhancing the understanding of Gen AI in education. Participation is voluntary, and your responses will remain confidential. We appreciate your time and valuable insights!

Watch for future announcements in SU Today, email and on the digital signage televisions on campus starting October 7!

Midsemester Check-In With Students: Supporting Student Success and Improving Pedagogical Practices

While end-of-semester course evaluations can be a great source for student feedback about a course and instructor, it comes at a time that is too late for the current learners. Instead, consider adding a formative feedback strategy to ask students what is working (or not) so far in the course. Such formative feedback is important because it allows you to identify areas where students are struggling and to provide timely support, which in turn helps students succeed in meeting the course objectives.

Midsemester feedback is also important for strengthening your pedagogy because it can help you reflect on your teaching practices. By understanding how students are experiencing the course, you can identify areas where additional instructional materials may clarify a particular concept, or how more effective communication or engaging teaching practices can be added to your course to support student learning.

ID&D has provided a Formative Course Assessment survey template in the Canvas Commons that you can import into your MyClasses course.

Not sure how to import content from the Canvas Commons? We have a video tip for that!

Video Tip: Gradebook Tips

Gradebook Tips

When preparing your gradebook, please review the Gradebook Tips video for information about:

  1. How to navigate the different gradebook views, including gradebook history.
  2. How to export/import the gradebook.
  3. How to apply a grading policy across the entire gradebook.
  4. How to add a grade override column or Notes column.
  5. How to view and modify status indicators for assignments (e.g. Late or Missing).
  6. How to adjust view options for assignment order.
  7. How to apply filters such as sections, modules, or assignment start at end dates.
  8. How to access and use the Student Grade Details tray.
  9. Kabob options for each assignment in the gradebook, including posting grades as points or percentages, setting a default grade, or messaging students in bulk about missing or late assignments or to consult about a low score.

Please contact your department's instructional designer if you have any questions or need any assistance preparing your gradebook for student grade calculations!

Midsemester Grading Opens Tomorrow (10/2)

Why is it important to provide midsemester grading in GullNet? Grades are the number one feature that students use in MyClasses and serve as the primary feedback regarding their progression in a course. In addition, midsemester grade reporting for all students, but especially those who are performing at a D level or below, directly affects:

  • Advisement during Program Planning
  • Outreach by the Academic Advising Center and Center for Student Achievement
  • Retention and degree completion
  • Determination before last day for regular session withdrawals on Friday, November 1, 2024

Please submit your midsemester grades in GullNet by October 20.
