MyClasses New Feature: Submit for Student

On occassion, there are times when students are unable to submit their assignment and might email it to the instructor. If you ever wished you could take that assignment and submit it on behalf of your student, your wish has been granted! Step by step instructions are available below and in the How do I submit an assignment on behalf of a student as an instructor?

End-of-Semester Gradebook Tips

Below are a few resources for features in the MyClasses Gradebook that may help you while preparing for your end of semester grading:

  • Running Totals vs. Putting in Zeros  - The gradebook calculates a running total of earned points out of possible points based on the assignments with grades calculated. Assignments with dashes in the gradebook are not calculated into the running total. Review the Adding Zeros video tip on how to add zeros to the gradebook in place of the dash to update the student's running total score.

  • Filtering Gradebook Columns - The gradebook allows you to filter and sort columns and grades to quickly see specific assignments and scores for review, updating and comparison. These filters are dynamic based on your course settings and can be added or removed at any time. These filters only apply to your gradebook view and do not alter the way your students view their grades.

  • Message Students Who - From the gradebook, you can message groups of students who either have submitted and assignment, haven't submitted an assignment, haven't had their assignment graded yet, scored more or less than a specified point value. This feature allows you to create one uniform message that is sent individually to students who meet one of the selected criteria.

  • Grade Override - Need to adjust the total calculation wthin MyClasses? The grade override option allows you to enter a new score that overrides the total score calculated by the Canvas gradebook. Often used at the end of semester to adjust the final grade based on student performance, extra credit and other syllabus policies.

Thank A Teacher Week - May 5-9!

SU Thanks You! In honor of Thank a Teacher Week, SU invites you to "Thank a Teacher." At SU we recognize and celebrate our exceptional faculty at all levels for their tireless commitment to teaching, research, service, mentorship, innovation, and transformative impact on students, the University, and society.

Each May, the University System of Maryland Council for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning joins the Kirwan Center for Academic Innovation in planning faculty and instructor recognition activities as part of Thank A Teacher Week. This event coincides with the National Teacher Appreciation Week, which is May 5-9, 2025!

Students are invited to share their gratitude by writing a note on a physical postcard or by sending a note virtually between April 28 and May 9. Students are asked to look for tables in the Guerrieri Student Union by the Dining Commons (April 28-May 1) and the Guerrieri Academic Commons (May 5-8) where students can sign postcards. Last year, faculty and staff took advantage of this opportunity as well to share gratitude to colleagues.

Students will receive communication via email and a MyClasses announcement regarding this event. More information is available at: www.salisbury.edu/thanks.

Sounds of Gratitude

There are many ways to say Thank You - one of which is through music!
