ID&D Presents at MDLA Conference

On April 4, 2025, two members of ID&D presented at the Maryland Distance Learning Association (MDLA) Conference to support the use of distance education in Maryland. Dr. Haley Cristea presented on behalf of herself, Melissa Thomas and Dr. Janice Orcutt on Soaring with the Cs: Canvas, Catalog, and Credentials, to discuss the redesign of the Soaring with Online Learning program. This session discussed how flexible and on-demand learning can be supported through various Instructure platforms that work together to support enrollment, course completion, and microcredentials to verify skills and knowledge acquired.

Karen Silverstrim presented on Leveraging AI to Streamline Course Development, which provided an introduction to and real-world examples of course content such as podcasts, schematics, and interactive chatbots (Chat with the queen of England, anyone?) and games, developed with the help of AI to support students in Silverstrim's History class. In this well- attended session, Silverstrim focused on AI tools that have free versions available and provided a variety of ways to create activities that engage students in studying, self-checks, and thinking critically about historical connections to modern systems and structures in our daily lives.

Salisbury Hub for OER Commons

M.O.S.T Commons Salisbury University Hub

Have you created Open Educational Resources (OER) or adopted/adapted existing OER you find useful? We want to know about it; share your course materials on the Salisbury Hub of the  M.O.S.T. Commons!

There are two ways to share OER on the M.O.S.T. Commons, you can register for an account and click on the option to Add OER to upload OER directly to the commons or you can email either Katie Delezenski (SU Libraries) or Karen Silverstrim (ID&D) for uploading.

While on the M.O.S.T. Commons consider visiting the Salisbury Hub, a custom resource center where SU faculty can create, organize, and share collections.

Since OER repositories are accessed globally, they are increasingly focused on accessibility to ensure inclusivity for all learners, including those with disabilities. This is accomplished through a combination of best practices in content creation, curation, and repository design.

Imagine a world where every student has access to high-quality, barrier-free educational resources. You can be part of making that vision a reality! Our workshop empowers educators to curate OER and assure its accessibility.  We will give a short presentation, then work with faculty while they learn how to make OER course materials accessible.  Learn to create learning experiences that resonate with every learner, regardless of their needs. This workshop will be online via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada).
