Legacy Winner Announced at Books & Bread

Malika Washington Named Books & Bread

“Build Your Legacy” Winner

Books & Bread has announced Malika Washington as the winner of the 2025 “Build Your Legacy” sandwich competition, earning top honors with her standout creation, the Gull Griller. Packed with bold flavors and campus pride, the Gull Griller features Texas toast layered with melted provolone, mozzarella, and white cheddar, smoked ham, caramelized onions, crispy bacon, Old Bay aioli, and fresh lettuce and tomatoes.

The winning sandwich impressed judges with its savory balance, creative ingredient pairing, and delicious nod to regional favorites. Students and guests will get the chance to enjoy the Gull Griller themselves when it officially joins the Books & Bread menu starting Spring 2026.

As the 2025 “Build Your Legacy” champion, Malika received a certificate, a 40" TV, and—of course—bragging rights as the newest name in campus sandwich history.

Books & Bread congratulates Milika on her flavorful win and looks forward to serving the Gull Griller in the semesters ahead.

Celebrating SU’s October Staff Who Soar Winner

from Dining Services

Dining Services Shines with Staff Who Soar Win

Salisbury University's newly revamped Staff Who Soar program is an employee recognition initiative that celebrates outstanding staff members who go above and beyond in their roles. Each month, SU highlights five exceptional employees whose dedication, service, and impact help our campus community thrive.

This October, we’re excited to share that Dining Services’ own Catering Chef, Matthew Conley, was selected as one of the five Staff Who Soar winners!

Matt’s commitment to elevating SU’s culinary experience truly stood out. Whether collaborating with the catering team, assisting with menu design, or staying late to ensure every dish meets the highest standard, his hard work and creativity make a meaningful difference for our campus and guests alike.

Please join us in congratulating Chef Conley on this well-deserved recognition—and in celebrating the continued excellence of our Dining Services team. Matt, you make SU soar!
