Shout out to ID&D's learning assistant Emily Kirchner, who presented on the Effects of Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals on Estrogen Response Element Stability and Estrogen Receptor Binding, research she conducted with the support of Faculty Mentor Dr. Joshua Sokoloski. Congratulations, Emily!

Sophia Phelps

ID&D former learning assistant and current Graduate Assistant in the University Writing Center, Sophia Phelps, presented her research In Defense of the Happy Ending: Genre Bias and the Politics of Literary Value with Faculty Mentor Dr. Beth Towle. Way to go, Sophia!

Karen Silverstrim receives AI Catalyst Award!

At the Faculty Friday event on Sept 18th, ten individuals were awarded trophies acknowledging the work they have done with AI which has helped our campus engage with AI in informed, reflective, and responsible ways. Among those honored was ID&D’s own Karen Silverstrim!

Karen was an early explorer of AI technologies and has conducted several workshops and presentations about its usefulness in the classroom. From escape rooms to podcasts, Karen has found creative ways to utilize these tools to make learning and teaching engaging and fun!

Gull Guide: Evening Monthly Sessions

Instructional Design & Delivery will be offering evening monthly professional development webinars for anyone teaching and using MyClasses, but we especially want to extend this opportunity to adjunct instructors and teaching graduate assistants.

The first session, Gull Guide to great course design, was held on September 17 to answer MyClasses Canvas questions and explore tools to enhance your teaching (and make life easier!). The next Gull Guide session will be held October 21 from 6-7 p.m. on grading in MyClasses.

Reintroducing the ID&D Knowledge Base

Instructional Design and Delivery has restructured and updated our knowledge base to help you find answers to your questions. Article titles have been repositioned as questions and our landing page has been expanded to help guide you to the restructured sections. You can also quickly navigate the knowledge base by using the search option on the landing page or expand the menu on the left. Next time you have a question on how to do something in MyClasses, Turnitin, Panopto or our newest instructional software, Akindi, start in the ID&D Knowledge Base.

USM Call for Abstracts: GenAI Pedagogy in Practice

The University System of Maryland Kirwan Center for Academic Innovation is inviting a call for abstracts. We're looking for faculty and instructional educators who have implemented or piloted GenAI-related teaching interventions and are ready to share what they've learned.
