The Digital Accessibility Journey Continues

Walking paths that are accessible with curb cutouts and truncated domes for the journey

While the April 2026 milestone has passed, our digital accessibility journey continues as Salisbury University is committed to making digital accessibility a core aspect of everyday operations. SU is on a clear, continuous path toward ensuring that all digital platforms and resources comply with accessibility standards.

As we continue this work, the following expectations will guide our collective efforts:

  • All new documents, reports, and digital materials are expected to be accessible from the start.

  • All course syllabi are expected to be digitally accessible.

  • Courses in MyClasses by Fall 2026 are expected to maintain an accessibility score of 90% or higher (as measured by UDOIT) and each subsequent semester thereafter.

During the spring 2025 semester, the top 3 accessibility issues across courses were:

  • Styled headings - where text was manually formatted instead of using heading styles
  • Hyperlinks - where links within text were not descriptive for context
  • Images - where alternate text was not available to describe the image for context

The encouraging news is that each of these are some of the easiest to fix in UDOIT!

Summer is a great time to reduce, remake/replace, and remediate in preparation for the fall semester! Join us for our practice and play sessions where you will learn how to upskill your digital accessibility prowess while working directly on your own digital artifacts.

Can't join us? Then take advatange of the UDOIT Video Training and resources on the SU Digital Accessibility website.

Akindi Demo for Scantron Replacement

Maryland Open Source Textbook Initiative

Join us on June 9 at 10 a.m. for a demonstration webinar on Akindi, a potential replacement for SU’s Scantron assessment scanning services (which has reached end of life). The session will provide an overview of how Akindi’s web-based assessment system works, including integration with MyClasses and paper and pencil (bubble sheet) options. We invite interested faculty and staff to attend, explore the platform, and share feedback to help inform our decision on adopting a new solution.

Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) Workshop

Dates: Online June 9-23, 2026

Cost: Free

Have you heard about Quality Matters (QM) but want to know more? Do you teach online, remote, or hybrid courses and want to learn about Salisbury University's guiding standards for quality course design? Are you interested in having your online, remote, or hybrid courses go through a QM course review? Then this workshop might be for you!

Facilitated by Melissa Thomas, this two-week online workshop is QM's flagship workshop for the Quality Matters (QM) Higher Education Rubric and the process of using the QM Rubric to review online courses. It is intended for a broad audience, including but not limited to faculty, instructional designers, administrators, and adjunct instructors who wish to understand more about the QM Rubric and process of course review.

ID&D highly recommends this workshop for anyone teaching an online, remote, or hybrid course in order to understand SU's commitment to quality distance learning course offerings. Participants can expect to spend about 7-10 hours per week in this workshop to successfully complete it. Upon completing the APPQMR workshop, participants will receive an official certificate of completion from the Quality Matters Program (QM) and be eligible to serve on internal QM course reviews at SU.

To participate in this free workshop with fellow USM colleagues, register by June 4, on the Faculty Development Calendar.
