13th Annual Teaching & Learning Conference

Attendees at TLC session in Perdue Hall 156 tiered classroom.

Registration is now open for the 13th Annual Teaching & Learning Conference to be held on Friday, February 17, in Perdue Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The goal of this conference is to bring together teacher-scholars from across campus to share and discuss teaching innovations and best practices. Join us in person (or virtually) for dynamic sessions led by a variety of SU’s faculty and staff. Dr. Kristen Walton, Distinguished Faculty Award recipient, will deliver the keynote presentation. A schedule is available online. Sessions cover topics such as ChatGPT, practices that support IDEAs (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility), authentic assignment and alternative grading strategies, and disciplinary strategies for supporting student ethics, critical thinking, engagement and health.

Online registration ends today, Tuesday, February 14. Individuals who register online will be sent the program with session descriptions. The program also provides details on how to join sessions virtually via Zoom.

In-person registration is available the day of the event in Perdue Hall Atrium

Instructional Designers: Who We Are and What We Do

A male and female instructional designer with callouts indicating that instructional designers are thinkers, builders, designers, explorers, project managers, fixers, evaluators, that work with data anaylsis and who build relationships.

Campus instructional designers support faculty by providing consultations to enrich the teaching and learning experience for you and your students. We are liaisons with academic units to better serve the culture of academic programs.

But do you truly know what instructional designers do? Some believe we are information technology specialists; we get that, since we support instructional software such as MyClasses, Panopto and PointSolutions (previously TurningPoint). Yet we are more than that, as we are also versed in andragogical (adult learning) and pedagogical strategies to improve the teaching and learning experience.

Teams Tutorial

ID&D, along with many other entities on campus, is using Teams for holding meetings. Teams meetings allow for sharing files, taking notes and sending chat messages, all of which remain available after the meeting through your Microsoft Office365 account.

When scheduling a virtual one-on-one meeting with ID&D, the meeting is automatically created through Teams. Watch the video below for more information on how to schedule and access an ID&D meeting and how to share your screen during a meeting. You can also review the IT Knowledgebase for more information about using Teams.
