SUCCEED Course Spotlight – MyClasses 101

Inspired by feedback from the summer 2020 Soaring MyClasses 101 course in SUCCEED, ID&D has developed an updated and expanded MyClasses 101 Certificate series. The MyClasses 101 Certificate consists of a series of five courses that provide an introduction to MyClasses and focus on creating and maintaining a course within a pedagogical context. The purpose is to not only introduce you to the tools available in MyClasses, but why they are useful. This series consists of the following courses:

  1. Terminology, Features and Support
  2. Assignments, Assessments and the Gradebook
  3. Course Structure and Design Strategies
  4. Developing and Locating Content
  5. Communication and Delivery Strategies

Log in to SUCCEED (using your SU credentials) and to enroll in the either certificate series or in the individual course(s) of your choice!

ID&D Webinar: Rethinking Your Syllabus Webinar

Would you like to update your spring syllabus to be more welcoming and inclusive? A welcoming syllabus can help set the tone for the semester and impact how a student views you and your course. Ethics Across the Curriculum Workshop

January 17-20, 2023

The workshop will gather faculty from across SU's five schools/college to discuss ethics education, the role of ethics in their disciplines, ethical reasoning and dialogue, the application of ethics in teaching and scholarship, as well as theoretical and structural concerns that arise in thinking through ethical problems. Participants will focus specifically on implementing new approaches to ethics in their teaching: new approaches to course content and ethics-based activities, developing your own skills in ethical reasoning, and exploring new models for ethics discussion, as well as exploring how to write and adapt case studies and design ethics assessments.

The workshop has a contract for implementation of your chosen activity and carries a $750 stipend. This workshop is supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities “Connections” grant and the REACH initiative.

If you are interested in registering , simply fill out this survey. If you have any questions ,please contact facilitator Timothy Stock (testock@salisbury.edu).

Important Dates for Spring 2023 Sessions

As we prepare for the spring 2023 sessions, ID&D wanted to share some important dates to consider for spring regular and 7W1 sessions:

  • Wednesday, January 18: Deadline for faculty to request sections to be combined in MyClasses.
  • Monday, January 23: Students have access to spring courses in MyClasses (provided faculty publishes course)
  • Monday, January 30: Start of sessions
  • Drop/Add Dates:
    • Regular session: January 30 - February 3
    • 7W1 session: January 30-31

  • Wednesday, February 8: Inclusive Access opt-out date for students

Inclusive Access and Publisher Integrations

Several major textbook publishers provide the ability to integrate their content and services with MyClasses courses. For example, assignments provided by the publisher can be linked from within a course module, and grades from the assignment will be automatically pushed back to the MyClasses gradebook.

Inclusive Access is a program coordinated by the SU Bookstore to provide access to course materials as soon as the MyClasses course opens to students (typically one week prior to the semester). With Inclusive Access, there are two types of course materials:

  • eBook - Access to a digital copy of the assigned textbook through the VitalSource eBook reader.
  • eBook and Courseware: In addition to the digital copy of the assigned textbook, students will also have access to various instructional materials and activities (Courseware) related to the assigned textbook selected by the instructor.

After faculty elect to participate in the Inclusive Access program, setup is required to connect their MyClasses course with selected publisher instructional materials and activities (Courseware) for students to access the selected materials. Need help with where to start? Visit the ID&D Inclusive Access and Publisher Integration Knowledge Base articles for information about how to Import the “Inclusive Access” page from the Canvas Commons into your course, review important winter and spring 2023 dates, and use the Inclusive Access Start of the Semester checklist to ensure you have your content/resources connected and ready for students to access!

Additionally, SU Instructional Designers are ready to help with publisher integrations and/or Inclusive Access and invites faculty to reach out their Instructional Designer liaison for assistance.
