FLC Spotlight: Professional Development for Gen. Ed.

Chalkboard with lightbulb and idea bubbles

The General Education Professional Development Faculty Learning Community (FLC) has been developing suggestions and opportunities to help and reward faculty preparing courses for the new General Education program. The work of the Gen. Ed. PD FLC has primarily focused on the three SU-specific “tagged” areas of Civic & Community Engagement, Diversity & Inclusion, and Sustainability, but they believe the conversations and resulting outcomes can be applicable in any of the General Education areas.

Since weekly meetings began in September, the FLC has found consonance between successful programs on the SU campus and other universities. After finding consensus on a suggested model of eight synchronous sessions and financial compensation for faculty, the FLC began outlining possible topics for the meetings, leaving final content development to advisory subcommittee members and other experts.

The Gen. Ed. PD FLC invites you to the first of several opportunities to attend a three-day workshop to prepare for the submission of “tagged” (those indicated above) and first year seminar courses for approval in the new General Education program.

Sessions are May 24-26, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.  Register Today

General Education Rubrics and Rules Feedback Session

The General Education Oversight Commitee (GEOC) and sub-committees have been working to establish guidelines and rubrics for the general education model. Curious as to the progress? Now's the time for you to view and provide feedback!

Rules and rubrics associated with the General Education model have been added to the General Education Revision: Ongoing Work MyClasses site. The documents included in the April 5 Rules and Rubrics module will be presented to the Faculty Senate, beginning April 12.

The GEOC will be holding an open session on Friday, April 8, 2022 at 1 p.m. to discuss the documents and listen to faculty feedback. Please lend your voice to this process and register for the open session.
