Instructional Design & Delivery

News & Events

Congratulations to Connie on Her Retirement!

Portrait of Constance Beckwith

On July 1, ID&D celebrated with Connie Beckwith as she concluded her time at Salisbury University. Connie was a wonderful administrative assistant for ID&D who welcomed all that contacted ID&D with grace. She was an important member of our team and we will miss her dearly!

If you used to send communications to ID&D via Connie, please redirect emails to SUIDD@salisbury.edu or to Bailey Phillips at bfphillips@salisbury.edu.

Meet Bailey Phillips

Portrit of Bailey Phillips

My name is Bailey Phillips and I am the new administrative assistant here in the Instructional Design & Delivery Office. I am assisting the staff to ensure continuous support for faculty members at Salisbury University. I am a student at SU, pursuing my degree in communication, with a focus on public relations and strategic communication, along with a minor in political science. I've been lucky enough to live in many different states, and I enjoy the outdoors, whether that be hiking through the mountains or walking along the beach. I value the first sip of a strong coffee, and I spend my down time chasing around my 8-year-old chocolate lab Coco. I look forward to working with you and helping in any way that I can. Go Gulls!

Meet Karen Silverstrim

Portrait of Karen Silverstrim

Please join us in welcoming Karen Silverstrim to the ID&D team as a Faculty Fellow. Karen has been with SU since 2007 teaching for the History Department. She was one of our early Soaring participants, completing her certificate in 2013. Karen went on to get her certificate for online learning and teaching (COLT) in 2018. She then followed that up with the Quality Matters APPQMR workshop in 2019 for statewide application of the Quality Matters Rubric. Most recently, Karen became a Quality Matters Peer Reviewer in 2020.

Mid-Semester Checking In with Students – Formative Course Feedback in Commons

While end-of-semester course evaluations can be a great source for student feedback about a course and instructor, it comes at a time that is too late for the current learners. Instead, consider adding a formative feedback strategy to ask students what is working (or not) so far in the course. ID&D has provided a Formative Course Assessment survey template in the Canvas Commons.

Not sure how to import content from the Canvas Commons? We have a video tip for that!

Mid-Semester Grading Due October 25

Why is it important to provide mid-semester grading? Grades are the number one feature that students use in MyClasses and serves as the primary feedback regarding their progression in a course. In addition, mid-semester grade reporting for all students, but especially those who are performing at a D level or below, directly affects:

  • Advisement during Program Planning
  • Outreach by the Academic Advising Center and Center for Student Achievement
  • Retention and degree completion.
  • Determination before last day for regular session withdrawals (November 6)

Testing Spaces

Student Affairs is offering proctored testing services for online assessments during the 2020-2021 academic year for courses taught in a face-to-face or hybrid modality. Proctors will be present during online assessments and will be trained to identify and address academic malfeasance. For safety precautions, the testing space will use physical and social distancing. See the Center for Student Achievement website about Proctored Testing for more information.

Passwords/Access Codes

If you are planning on using a testing space for online assessments, you may choose to add an access code for students to take your exams to ensure they are completing their assessment in the correct location. An access code can be added to the quiz assignment details when you set up a quiz. However, if you are using LockDown Browser with your quiz, there is an additional location where you can designate an access code. Review the Establishing an Access Code for MyClasses and LockDown Browser Quizzes guide to review both options (SU login required).

October Workshops Offerings

ID&D is offering workshops in October that focus on CidiLabs Design Tools, MyClasses Gradebook and Panopto, and we are hosting a focused Q&A session with MyClasses Tips and Tricks. The CidiLabs Design Tools, MyClasses Gradebook and Panopto workshops require registration, while the Q&A session is more informal and, therefore, does not require registration. To view more details about each session and to register for one or more workshops, please go to the Faculty Development Calendar.
