Partner Presentation: Getting the Most Out of Peer Review: From Conception to Implementation

On Friday, April 2 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. (EST), join us for our "Getting the Most Out of Peer Review: From Conception to Implementation" partner presentation. Helping our students to develop as writers is an ongoing  process, and peer review helps them see the writing process from both the perspective of reader and writer. In this session, explore three approaches to implementing peer review and discuss how careful guidance in appropriate feedback supports students' development as writers. This session includes Dr. Carolyne King, director of first-year writing, and Dr. Melissa Bugdal and Dr. Beth Towle, University Writing Center, who describe why they use peer review and how they carefully scaffold this activity. Dr. Sarah Winger, University Analysis, Reporting and Assessment, addresses findings related to Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for reading and writing from GULL Week, which serves as background for the importance of scaffolding students’ writing in our classrooms.

This session will not require pre-registration, but you can submit questions before the session by emailing them directly to hjcristea@salisbury.edu. To access this session on April 2, please go to the Faculty Development Calendar.

New in MyClasses: Submission Reassignment Option

Canvas Videos SpeedGrader Submission Reassignments for Instructors video intro screen

In the March 20, 2021, MyClasses update, a new feature was added to Speedgrader for Assignments to allow instructors to reassign a student submission. This is new and ID&D is still reviewing how this will work based on different scenarios. To view more details, watch the Submission Reassignments video.

The reassignment does not change the original due date for the student, and their ability to redo the assignment will be based the assignment settings.

When used, students will see an assignment Redo indicator on the To Do List Dashboard view.
This is the only place the Redo icon appears. ID&D will continue to test this feature and will develop a Knowledgebase article in the near future.

Dashboard list view item of an assignment with a "Redo" indicator added next to a "Feedback" indicator in the assignment details.

Zoom Recording Retention Policy Begins April 5, 2021

Last Change to Register - 2021 MOST State Summit: Using OER to Advance Equity and Inclusion

The theme of the 2021 virtual conference to be held April 8-9 is "Using OER to Advance Equity and Inclusion." The COVID-19 pandemic and continuing patterns of racialized violence have brought to the forefront inequities in educational access, preparation and experiences on our campuses. How might the use of open educational resources (OER) advance equity and inclusion at our postsecondary institutions and statewide?

Registration is free. You can register through the University System of Maryland Kirwan Center site.

April Workshops

ID&D April workshops cover pedagogical topics and look ahead for summer and fall course planning and design. Offerings include a partner presentation that focuses on pedagogical writing and peer review strategies, exploring the New Analytics feature to learn more about how students are engaging in your course, planning for interactions using Turning technology sessions, and learning the basics of MyClasses if the platform is new or intimidating for you. These sessions are meant to help you plan and implement effective online content, whether you are fully online, hybrid, remote or supplementing a face-to-face class with online submissions and resource sharing.

ID&D will not be holding a workshop on Friday, April 23; instead, we will be supporting the Annual SU Student Research Conference (SUSRC).

To view more details about each session and to register for one or more workshops, please go to the Faculty Development Calendar.
