Student View Updates

Student View has updated to be quickly available in certain areas of your MyClasses course. While the full Student View name is still visible next to the glasses icon from the course Settings page: 

The icon has been moved and simplified in all other areas of the course where it is available, the most notable change being on the Home page. The glasses icon will appear in the top right corner of areas in MyClasses where this quick shortcut to Student View is available:

This shortcut has been added to the Announcements, Assignments, and Modules landing pages, as well as on individual pages, discussions, and assignments. The icon is not available for use with LTI tools, such as Zoom, Panopto, or Perusall; these tools will still recognize your role as a teacher in the course.

Summer and Fall 2021 Course Materials Due by March 5, Including TurningPoint (Clickers)

If you are planning to use TurningPoint response/clicker system in your classroom during the 2021 summer term or fall semester, please make sure the SU Bookstore is aware of this requirement as part of the required course materials. This is usually requested as part of the book adoption form and will help the Bookstore plan and supply enough inventory based on course enrollment.

When requested as one of the required course materials, your course will be listed on the Clicker Courses page on the website, and “TurningPoint” account subscription/license and other purchase options will be listed with the required course materials in the Bookstore course selection search for your course/section.

Additionally, if you are searching for Open Educational Resources (OER), the library offers a tool from EBSCO called Faculty Select to help you find e-textbooks and other course e-books that will not cost your students a penny to use.

Call for Proposals - MOST Grant

The Maryland Open Source Textbook (MOST) initiative is seeking proposals for the Faculty OER Mini-Grant Program, which supports faculty efforts to increase access, affordability and achievement for students at Maryland’s two-year and four-year public higher education institutions through the incorporation of Open Educational Resources (OER) into teaching practice.

The 2020 MOST faculty mini-grants will provide recipients with unique opportunities to engage in communities of practice related to teaching with OER, creation of OER in high-need areas and evaluation of OER use in relation to student success.

For more information about the grant and how to apply, please visit the MOST Call for Proposals website. Proposals must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday, March 1, 2021.

The Partner Presentation on Critical Thinking below continues the conversation about pedagogical best practices and examples of strategies to introduce students to and support the development of students’ critical thinking skills. This session will include guest speakers
