14-Day Writing Challenge Program

Person writing in a journal.

The National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD) offers a variety of resources to help academics (of all stages) better align their professional and personal goals. Because SU is a NCFDD Institutional Member, these resources are free to use!

One of the most popular programs is the 14-day Writing Challenge, which uses best practices to help you create a consistent writing practice. The next opportunity to participate is June 20-July 3. During this time, you will be asked to commit to writing every day for at least 30 minutes. You’ll log on to the NCFDD’s online community, start the timer, complete your writing, post your progress and encourage others in your assigned writing group. Past participants credit this program and the accountability of the writing groups with helping them to establish better writing habits or to refresh stagnant ones.

Registration closes Wednesday, June 15.

Panopto Retention Policy

Starting June 1, 2022, Panopto video recordings that have not been viewed within five years will be marked for deletion and the video will be placed in a recycle bin for 90 days. As we role out this new process, faculty and staff will be notified by email regarding videos that have been identified for deletion. Individuals will have the following options:

  • Watch the video to retain the recording in Panopto.
  • Download the video for safekeeping.
  • Confirm the video can be deleted.

More information is available in the Panopto Retention Policy article in ID&D's Knowledgebase (SU login required).

General Education: GEOC Standing Rules Approved

The Standing Rules for the General Education Oversight Committee (GEOC) have been approved by the Faculty Senate. As the final versions of the Appendices to that document become finalized based on feedback from the Faculty Senate, they will be made available in the first module in the MyClasses site.

Upcoming General Education Timelines:

  • Summer 2022: Professional development opportunities for faculty developing courses to align with General Education 2024 model (one workshop occurred May 24-26 and another is planned for August).
  • Summer 2022: New General Education category-specific forms become available in Curriculog.
  • Summer 2022-Summer 2023: Faculty develop and submit course proposals for approval in all categories of General Education 2024 model.
  • Fall 2022-Fall 2023: Course approval process - please refer to the GEOC Standing Rules for timeline of the course proposal/approval process.

Updates on General Education progress will be communicated regularly through the ID&D newsletters and other SU communication channels!

Reflecting on Student Course Evaluations

Summer is a great time to reflect on your courses for continuous improvement. This is an established best practice in academia and now is a great time to use the feedback from students as an important tool to reflect and assist with planning for future semesters.

Course evaluations are available seven days after the semester ends. Instructions are available in the Technology Support Center Knowledgebase on how faculty can access course evaluations delivered via GullNet:
