Publisher Integration and Inclusive Access Webinar

Integration of publisher content in MyClasses is a maze with different options around every turn. ID&D has partnered with the SU Bookstore to offer a webinar to inform faculty of important updates related to:

  • Changes in publisher integrations for McGraw-Hill Connect, ALEKS, Pearson and more
  • Essential faculty workflows when using Inclusive Access to ensure students have access to course materials

Information in this webinar will have a direct impact for summer 2023, fall 2023 and beyond. Whether you are a novice or veteran in using publisher materials and/or Inclusive Access, we encourage you to join us virtually via Zoom on Thursday, April 13, from 2-3 p.m. (EST).

Turnitin AI Detection Updates

Turnitin Artificial Intelligence scores demonstrating 0%, 8%, and 100% examples.

Turnitin has released an update where an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Detection feature has been added to the Similarity Report. The percentage, generated by Turnitin’s AI writing detection model, is different and independent from the similarity score, and the AI writing highlights are not visible in the Similarity Report. Turnitin’s AI writing detection model only highlights text that is highly likely to be AI-generated. To learn more about Turnitin AI Detection, review the Turnitin FAQ section.

ID&D and Turnitin alike stress that, like the Similarity Report percentage, the AI percentage is interpretive and should not be used as a definitive measure of misconduct or punitive tool. Instructors should use both the Similarity Report percentage and AI Detection percentage as informative, and they should understand the factors that contribute to the percentage and how to evaluate the accuracy of, or manage the use of, the Turnitin reports.

ID&D is offering a Turnitin Plagiarism and AI Detection Reports virtual webinar on Friday, April 14, from 1-2 p.m. For more details and to register for the webinar, go to the Faculty Development Calendar.

Student Search for Summer 2023 Courses with Affordable Course Materials

An example of a students view of options related to class selection criteria. The Affordable Course Materials Course Attribute dropdown includes Free Course Resources and Low Cost Course Resources as options for students to select when searching for classes.

In GullNet, students can search for summer 2023 courses with free or low-cost (under $50) course materials. A new course attribute called Affordable Course Materials has been created by the Registrar's Office to identify course sections that are using either free or low-cost course materials.

Do you have a course using free or low-cost course materials for summer or fall 2023 and want it tagged in GullNet? Please ensure that your course material adoption is completed in Verba Collect in the Bookstore, or if not reported to the Bookstore, complete this survey so that your course can be coded accurately.

Call for New Student Reflection Facilitators

Center for Civic Reflection in partnership with Salisbury University and PACE

Each fall, Salisbury University welcomes new students to campus with the New Student Reflection (NSR) program. NSR, coordinated by PACE and Student Affairs, uses the method of civic reflection to invite students into conversation as they enter the classroom for the first time. The one-hour program occurs between Convocation and department open houses in classrooms across campus. This year, NSR 2023 takes place on Friday, August 25, and pairs each reflection group (approximately 20 students) with one faculty/staff member and one student orientation leader – and facilitators are needed!

For those interested in facilitating, PACE is holding three in-person training sessions. These sessions are designed for both new and returning facilitators (but are not required for returning facilitators). The training sessions are scheduled for:

  • Thursday, April 20 • 8-10 a.m.
  • Thursday, April 20 • 3-5 p.m.
  • Thursday, August 17 • 1-3 p.m.

If you are interested in signing up for training and/or facilitating a reflection this fall, please fill out the NSR Faculty/Staff Facilitator Training and Reflection Participation form. To learn more about civic reflection, visit the Center for Civic Reflection website.
