Faculty Learning Community Spotlight:
Center for Cognitive and Brain Sciences

The goal of this Faculty Learning Community (FLC) is to establish the Center for Cognitive and Brain Sciences (CCBS). The center would ultimately serve as more than an FLC, though less than a full academic department. It would be a nexus for interaction among faculty and students with interests in the study of mind and brain. The CCBS will be aligned with the tenets of cognitive science, which attempts to understand how the mind works by studying it from multiple perspectives. We hope to bring together faculty from anthropology, biology (neuroscience), computer science (artificial intelligence), English (linguistics), philosophy and psychology (cognitive and biopsychology). (Note that the word ‘brain’ is included in the title to explicitly signal inclusion of neuroscience and biology.)

For more information about this FLC, please contact Larence Becker (Psychology) or Joerg Tuske (Philosophy).

Gradebook Tips

For the month of October, we are sharing some tips for managing your MyClasses gradebook:

Filtering Gradebook Columns - The gradebook allows you to filter and sort columns and grades to quickly see specific assignments and scores for review, updating and comparison. These filters are dynamic based on your course settings and can be added or removed at any time. These filters only apply to your gradebook view and do not alter the way your students view their grades.

Message Students Who - From the gradebook, you can message groups of students who either haven't submitted an assignment yet, haven't had their assignment graded yet, scored less than a specified point value, or scored lower than a specified point value. This allows you to create one uniform message that is sent individually to students who meet one of the selected criteria.

SUCCEED Course Spotlight - MyClasses 101

Inspired by feedback from the summer 2020 Soaring MyClasses 101 course in SUCCEED, ID&D has developed an updated and expanded MyClasses 101 Certificate series. The MyClasses 101 Certificate consists of a series of five courses that provide an introduction to MyClasses and focus on creating and maintaining a course within a pedagogical context. The purpose is to not only introduce you to the tools available in MyClasses, but also share why they are useful. This series consists of the following courses:

  • Terminology, Features and Support
  • Assignments, Assessments and the Gradebook
  • Course Structure and Design Strategies
  • Developing and Locating Content
  • Communication and Delivery Strategies

You can enroll in an individual course or the entire series. Register today through SUCCEED by logging in (1) and selecting the Instructional Design & Delivery catalog (2) to quickly find the MyClasses 101 Certificate course. Note: You can also search the All of Salisbury University catalog for other courses you are interested in.
