Thank A Teacher Week

In honor of Thank A Teacher Week, Salisbury University invites you to “Thank A Teacher.” At SU, we recognize and celebrate our exceptional faculty at all levels for their tireless commitment to teaching, research, service, mentorship, innovation and transformative impact on students, the University and society. Learn more: www.salisbury.edu/thanks

This week, May 3-7, is Thank A Teacher Week and if you receive a postcard or email with the above image, keep it! Each May, the University System of Maryland Council for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning joins the Kirwan Center for Academic Innovation in planning teacher recognition activities as part of Thank A Teacher Week.

Students have been invited to send a note of thanks to individuals who have supported them, taught and mentored them, cared about them, and who made a difference to them this year. And, oh, what a year this has been!

Thank you to Dr. Jessica Clark, incoming assistant provost for faculty success, and

Dr. Wallace Southerland, associate vice president of student affairs, for coordinating Salisbury University's participation in Thank A Teacher Week this year.

More information on Thank A Teacher Week is available on the SU website.

Extensions For Incompletes

By default, students have access to MyClasses courses for two weeks after the end of the semester. So how can a MyClasses course be extended beyond that time for a student who has an incomplete?

ID&D runs a weekly report between GullNet and MyClasses that extends courses based on the Registrar's incomplete deadline (posted in the Registrar calendar). So for spring 2021, any course with an incomplete will extend student access to:

  • October 19, 2021, for Undergraduate Courses
  • December 3, 2021, for Graduate Courses

When a faculty member uses the Incomplete Grade Extension form, our weekly report will extend the course in MyClasses based on the new date.

Save the Date – Faculty Development Day

Checkmark next to "Mark Your Calendar"

Faculty Development Day is scheduled for Wednesday, August 25, from 8:30 a.m.-noon. The focus for this year's event are:

  • Supporting Student Learning Outcomes
  • Needs Assessment for a Faculty Development Center

Interested in exploring some past faculty development opportunities? Review the Faculty Development playlist, which consists of past recordings of faculty development sessions offered by, or in partnership with, ID&D.

SU General Education Student Learning Outcomes

With the recent passing of the Alternate General Education Model, the next year will see the campus engage in various discussions around curriculum and the General Education Student Learning Outcomes. Take some time to review the learning outcomes as you revise and plan your courses for fall 2021 and beyond.

ID&D Virtual Office Hours

New Quizzes to Replace Quizzes Tool in MyClasses

In a year, starting with the summer 2022 session, the Quizzes feature in MyClasses will change!

Quizzes will be replaced with the New Quizzes functionality, and a few faculty have piloted

New Quizzes during spring 2021. New Quizzes offers additional question types, additional assessment delivery options, the ability to share questions banks (now called item banks)

and the ability to setup accommodations for students for all assessments in a course.

comparison of Quizzes and New Quizzes features is available in the Canvas Community.

ID&D will be holding four informative and interactive sessions on New Quizzes during the following days/times:

  • Monday, May 24 • 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Monday, May 24 • 1-2:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 25 • 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Tuesday, May 25 • 1-2:30 p.m.

Please register for a session through the Faculty Development Calendar and we hope to have additional faculty use New Quizzes in summer 2021 and fall 2021.
