Engaging Your Students From the Start
Give Students a Reason To Be in Your Course:
The beginning of the semester is the ideal time to help students understand how the content will be relevant to them and why it's important so that they are excited to spend time and effort in your course.
Classroom Climate:
Plan an activity early in the semester to allow students to get to know you as well as other students in the course. Fostering an environment with personalization and student cohesiveness increases student satisfaction and positively effects learning.
Set Expectations:
It is important to clearly present all types of expectations in the course, including what you expect from the students, what students can expect from you, workload time commitment, course pacing and guidelines for communication.
The SU Syllabus Template has been updated with language for General Education courses. Copy and modify the Student Learning Outcomes section in your syllabus to align with your course's General Education requirement.
